Contests are a great way to encourage members to sign up for the app and keep them engaged with prizes to encourage participation.
How are Contests created?
Contests are created as an Interactive Post, since:
-
Contests usually run for a certain period of time, so has an expiry date.
-
Contests require information from the member, so it needs to be interactive.
Design
You can design a contest any way you like using the no-code Content Builder. To give you a starting point, you can use the Contest template in Activate Templates which are available to everyone:
Interactive Features
A contest should restrict the number of entries a member can make.
-
Number of Entries: Use this feature to restrict the number of times each member can submit an entry.
-
Include Company: This feature includes identifying information about the Company channel the member is in.
You can also ask the member to confirm the company they work for to compare and make sure they are accurately represented in the app.
Data Inputs
The main purpose of a contest is to get members to sign up and provide information about themselves.
Therefore the data inputs you would want are:
-
Name: text input
-
Email: Email input
-
Phone number: Phone number input
- Company: text input
Some countries (like Canada) require a skills testing question (1 + 1 = ?) to differentiate a contest from gambling. You can create any skills testing question and use a text field to get the answer.
Workflows
Use Workflows to automate messages to the member.
-
Confirmation of entry: Create a workflow that sends an email confirmation to the member after they submit their entry.
You could also create a workflow that alerts you each time an entry is submitted, but that will quickly fill up your inbox. Monitor the Table tab of the contest instead to see the names and dates of new entrants.
Notifications
You should use Notifications to encourage members who may not be regular users to log into the app and register for the contest.
Selecting a winner
To select a winner, at the end of the contest period download the results from the Table tab of the Content. Open the results in a spreadsheet app such as Excel or Google Sheets and select a winner using the random function.
