What are External Links?
External Links opens a link to an external site either within the VTS Activate app or in a new window or app.
How are External Links created?
Step 1
Switch to the Admin View.
Step 2
Select +New Content to create a new Post or Page. Skip the template step.
Step 3
Fill out the Info Card. This is what members will click on so include a title, description, and a fitting image or icon.
Step 4
In the Editor Step, select the External Link checkbox.
Step 5
Enter the External Link and select the Opening Mode.
Note: Use http:// rather than https:// due to an issue that affects Android devices. Most sites will correctly redirect the user to the secure version of the website. |
Step 6
Select Save, Next, Target, and then Publish.
The External Link is now created. You can now insert the link in an appropriate tab page.
What are the Opening Mode options?
External links can be opened:
-
In App: On mobile, the link is opened within the Activate app, with a back button to return to the channel. This method is generally recommended in most cases, since it keeps the member in the Activate app.
On desktop, the link is opened in a new browser window or tab. -
In App with SSO: On mobile, the link is opened within the Activate app, and the user’s information (usually email address) is passed to the linked site.
On desktop, the link is opened in a new browser window or tab. -
External: Whether on desktop or mobile app, the link is opened in either a new browser window/tab, or in the default app for that type of link (Maps, Uber).
What is the difference between External Links and Deep Links?
External links look for the default browser app set on the user’s mobile device.
Deep Links allow the content creator to specify which app to open, and which page within the app.
