You don't always have to build from scratch. Copy your content to use existing foundations, or use the export and import tools to share content with other admins or teams to add to their own channels.
Copying content
If you've already got access to the content, you can just make a copy—including from templates. Try to match the content type (import a Post for a new Post) for the best results:
- Create some content and go to the editor step.
- Click the triple dots.
- Select Import.
- Choose Select content.
- Pick the content you want to copy.
- Configure which aspects you want to copy. By default, Activate makes a copy of the content as is.
- Click Import.
When you configure the import, step 2, general info, is everything you would set up in the Info step of the content builder. The import appearance toggle brings in all of the original content blocks. Step 5 is all about the features and interactive elements you initially added. Mix and match your settings to set the foundation you need for the new Page or Post.
💡 This is a great way to make new templates, too. If you find you use the same content as a base a lot, go to the Library, select templates, click the New Template button, and follow the steps above. |
Export content
When you want to share content with another admin or team that doesn't have access, use the export tool. It creates a JSON file that another admin can use to import to their own channel.
To export content:
- Find and select the content you want to export in the content center or page center.
- Click the Edit button.
- Click the triple dots.
- Select Export.
- Configure which aspects you want to export. By default, Activate exports content as is.
- Click the Export button.
💡 Note: Keep Notifications toggled off when exporting a Post that you are importing as a Page. Any Workflows, Notifications, or Targeting that is configured will be copied over if not removed. |
Once you're done, Activate downloads a JSON file you can share with a teammate however you need. They can use the steps below to import the file to their own channel.
Import content
If someone's sent you a JSON file created in Activate, use the import tool to copy it to your own channel. Remember to import the original type as the new type you're creating—if they sent you a Post, make sure you import it to a new Post. If you don't, you make create complications with notifications and workflows, especially when you import Posts into Pages.
To import content:
- Create a Post or Page.
- Click the triple dots.
- Select Import.
- Choose Import from file.
- Find the right JSON file, then click Open.
- Configure which aspects to import. By default, Activate copies the content as is—do this for the best results.
- Click Import.
